Week 9 of our Top Tip Tuesday focuses on Involvement

I – INVOLVEMENT

Other keys terms used for this is engagement, consultation, and communication. All can be achieved through involving team members in all aspects of health, safety, and environmental performance. Here are our top tips and how to get the most out of them:

  • Let team members lead on certain aspects i.e., risk assessment. Encourage them to take risk assessments into the workplace and challenge them. Allow them to make suggestions and alterations to the documents.
  • Use their experience and knowledge. Encourage them to take part in workplace inspections and safety tours.
  • Encourage them to attend steering group or best practice meetings. Let them take part and have their say.
  • Avoid decisions being made by managers. Joint decisions are best.
  • Ask if they feel confident to deliver toolbox talks and team members briefings.
  • Involve team members in incident investigation.
  • Be transparent with everything you do. Build trust. Allow team members to make decisions.
