H – HEALTH SURVEILLANCE

The introduction of employment medicals can not only confirm your employees have not developed any occupational diseases, it gives you the opportunity to identify any issues early and can also project the value of your business. Here are our top tips on health surveillance:

  • What does your policy say? Look at your risk assessments and the type of health hazards your team members may be exposed to. Make a list of who is exposed to each health hazard.
  • Research a local occupational health professional and seek some advice and clarification on what you require. Ask for a cost and timings.
  • Some options may include intrusive medicals whilst other options could be self-assessments and questionnaires.
  • Don’t forget to speak to them about pre-employment screening.
  • Once you arrange health surveillance, ensure each person is consulted on the findings.
  • Finally, any health surveillance records must be kept for a minimum of 40 years.
