F – FIRE SAFETY

One of the biggest impacts to an organisation is suffering a severe fire. Many organisations that suffer a significant fire, never trade again, and decide to close. Here are our top tips to prevent this potential impact:

  • Carry out a fire risk assessment of your premises and workplace. If you have one, look at it again to make sure it is still correct.
  • Make sure people are trained on what to do in the event of a fire and hearing the fire alarm.
  • Appoint and train fire wardens.
  • Introduce routine inspections of your workplace to identify any issues or concerns.
  • Keep ignition and fuel sources separate. Don’t put them together.
  • Test your fire alarm every week. Not from the main panel but by the break glass points you may have installed. Test a different one every week.
  • Arrange a fire drill every year. Complete evacuation of the premises. Don’t tell people it’s going to happen.
  • If hot works is being carried out on your premises, stop this at least one hour prior to team members finishing work. At least if an issue does arise, someone will be there to raise the alarm.
