Energy management

This week we look at how your business can minimise the environmental impact of energy consumption

A road going through a field with solar panels and wind turbines.

Here are our top tips on minimising the environmental impact of energy consumption within your organisation:

1.   Review your energy bills from the previous year to see how much you are consuming. Create a spreadsheet to identify any increases or decreases in consumption. This is a great starting point.

2.   Take a walk through each building of your organisation. Look for quick fixes such as lights left on, heating on but windows open, air conditioning on with nobody in the room, machinery left on during non-operation etc. Take pictures as this is good to reference as examples.

3.   Identify if there are funding possibilities to invest in solar panels and other energy efficient technology. An initial cost could have medium terms savings.

4.   Source costs for installing energy saving light bulbs. Find out how much they may save you.

5.   Introduce automatic light controls. They only activate by motion in the room.

6.   If you can’t invest, perhaps placing stickers next to light switches and delivering team briefings on the importance of saving energy will influence change.
